I am a SAHM of 3 girls ages 9, 7, and 4 and three or four days a week I watch two brothers ages 5 and 3 so we can pay for silly things like birthdays and Christmas ;)
I love being with my friends, going to parties, having small talk with strangers in the grocery line, but I still desperately need some quiet time in order to be a functional human being who doesn't fly off the handle at the slightest provocation.

I've gotten into the habit of taking really long potty breaks. I'll take my phone or a book, lock my bedroom door and then the bathroom door (protection from little hands pounding on the bathroom) and take a 10 minute potty break. Three or four of those in a day are what I get by on. Just enough of a mini recharge until I can get in a long bath all by my lonesome.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1706760363141559448.post-39421797156882689362014-08-13T08:25:57.881-07:002014-08-13T08:25:57.881-07:00That is a great point. I figure if I can still want a 2nd child while I am having a meltdown kind of day (not just when I am feeling good & super excited about it), then it is something I am serious about wanting. So on to making it work. We didn't want to wait mainly because of our ages, I'm 32 & he is 36. And I kinda have a "lets get the diaper changing period out of the way now" mentality, lol. I think we will try to put our first in some type of daycare for a bit during the week so that I can have a reliable amount of downtime. I've been reading more of your blog & am really connecting with it. Thank you so much for taking your time to share experiences. It is incredibly uplifting & helpful.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1706760363141559448.post-91945222825831741012014-08-13T08:25:16.918-07:002014-08-13T08:25:16.918-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1706760363141559448.post-4311181270537258702014-08-12T19:26:21.755-07:002014-08-12T19:26:21.755-07:00If you really want it you'll make it work. I love him so much and we would like another but I don't know if I could handle that. Your article really defined exactly what the issue is for me. Now that I know, hopefully I can make it work.

SarahAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1706760363141559448.post-17559086059019458972014-04-11T05:23:42.642-07:002014-04-11T05:23:42.642-07:00Thank you. I really liked how you describe babies as an extension of ourselves, kind of like we can be 'alone' without being alone. We are still viewed as productive, raising a baby, but we are still able to recharge how we need to. I have a 4 and 6 year old, and i am realizing how the older they get, the more they break out of that 'extension'...and the more that happens the more draining they are :-) so then i have to sneak off on my own to get quiet and i feel like i am doing something wrong. I also have a baby due in august....wondering if i am crazy...but i know i love having babies around. I just need to keep learning how to change the routines as they get older. Thanks again for the post.Krishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15749161280147698595noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1706760363141559448.post-64191244361221254762014-03-31T17:27:44.431-07:002014-03-31T17:27:44.431-07:00I don't find I have trouble talking to people,...I don't find I have trouble talking to people, it's more that being around them (and small children all day) drains me if I don't get any time alone. I a...Thanks, I reallly REAlly needed to read this.
I am an introvert mother with a toddler and a newborn. Right now, my toddler is beginning nursery and attending other toddler groups. I'm struggling to keep up the regular everyday small talk that everyone else can do so easily. I'm happy to listen to others but find it hard to break in with new people, especially since everyone at toddler groups already knows each other and I'm a a newbie without any local family/friends.
